Electoral Attempts – NES and MERI
This collection centers on two unsuccessful attempts to transform extra-parliamentary activity into a peace list that competed in the elections for the Israeli Knesset.
NES - The first attempt deals with the formation of the Peace List, 1969, which was an outgrowth of the Movement for Peace and Security, founded by Professor Yehushua Arieli and other well know professors in Israeli academia.
MERI - The second list resulted, inter alia, from the split in SIAH in 1973. One section of SIAH, let by Ron Cohen, joined other groups to establish Moked (see Left Zionists collection). The minority in SIAH joined with Ha'olam Ha'zeh and established the formation named MERI. MERI's demand for clarity of the anti-annexation platform and insistence that the 1967 borders were to be honored was the basis of the dispute between Moked and MERI.
This collection contains about 20 items. The material includes press clippings and material authored by the two electoral initiatives - including information papers, leaflets and articles.
The archive language is English, while the items are mostly in Hebrew.
